The Government of Karnataka envisioned the state as a leading hub for research, innovation, entrepreneurship, and skill development—key pillars of sustainable economic growth. The Department of Electronics, IT, BT, and S&T was established to position Karnataka as a global leader.
VisionThe project titled 'Development of Biotechnology Park, Bangalore' was initiated under a tripartite agreement involving the Department of IT, BT and S&T, Government of Karnataka, DBT (start of India), and KBITS. This laid the foundation for a world-class bioinnovation ecosystem.
2005This pioneering initiative led to the establishment of key institutions such as the Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology (IBAB) and the Centre for Human Genetics (CHG), creating a strong academic and research backing.
FoundationThe Incubation Centre with a Common Instrumentation Facility (IC-CIF) evolved into what is now known as the Bangalore Bioinnovation Centre (BBC), a section 8 not-for-profit company designed to nurture startup growth.
EstablishmentThrough forward-looking policies and strategic investments, the Government of Karnataka continues to foster a vibrant innovation ecosystem, enhancing the state’s leadership in the life sciences sector.
